Excello Law: The Point of Difference

Excello Law isn’t for everyone. And that’s exactly the point.

When I founded Excello Law in 2009, my aim was clear: to create the best possible environment for experienced lawyers to build successful, sustainable legal practices. That principle still guides everything we do today.

At Excello Law, we don’t try to be everything to everyone. We don’t aim to be the loudest voice in the market, or to make broad promises about freedom without substance behind them. What sets us apart is something simpler and more deliberate. Difference is not about volume. It is about standards.

Growth matters. But it has to be the right kind of growth. Chasing headcount or revenue at the expense of values is a race we chose not to run. Every decision we make, from who we bring into the firm to how we support them once they arrive, is guided by a commitment to maintaining those standards.

We are highly selective in our recruitment. Every consultant lawyer at Excello has a minimum of eight years’ PQE. That means anyone joining us becomes part of a peer group defined by experience and reputation. It also means our clients are supported by lawyers who understand not just the law, but how to build and sustain a successful practice.

Our strength also comes from the way we work together. We have built a curated internal referrals market that encourages collaboration rather than competition. Lawyers support each other’s practices, and when they introduce work, they are recognised for it in a transparent and consistent way. This is not about internal rivalry. It is about collective success.

Support is another area where standards matter. Whether it is finance, compliance, paralegal assistance, marketing, technology or professional development, our lawyers have access to experienced professionals at every step. That support is extensive, and it comes with a clear commitment. There are no hidden costs. When our partners need help, they know exactly what to expect.

We also believe that flexibility should be real, not rhetorical. Some of our lawyers prefer to work remotely. Others value time in a shared space. That is why we have invested in local offices across the country, creating a genuine community feel for those who want it, without imposing it on those who do not. The choice sits with the individual, not the firm.

At the centre of all of this is leadership that listens. Jo Losty and I have been here from the beginning, and we have always believed that senior lawyers should be able to access leadership directly. Because we grow selectively, we have the time to build real relationships with every partner and to understand what matters to them.

We measure success differently. Not by hierarchy or titles, but by the standards we maintain and the way we work together. This is a firm built around individuals, not headcount, and around long-term alignment, not short-term gain.

This is what we mean when we talk about the Excello point of difference. It is not one feature or one benefit. It is a combination of choices. Leadership that listens. Lawyers with experience and reputation. A curated internal referrals market, not internal competition. Extensive support at every step, with no hidden costs. Local offices with a genuine community feel. On their own, each of these matters. Together, they are rare.

Excello Law is not for everyone. And that is the point. It is for experienced lawyers who have outgrown the ordinary. For those who value autonomy, but not at the expense of support. For those who expect more from their firm, their colleagues and their career.

We are not here to be louder. We are here to be clearer.
